Life has no meaning

Life has no meaning just like love have no specific definition. When you are born you don’t know anything until parents tell you what is what. You don’t care about anyone or anything. You can walk around naked until they tell you to cover your body. The moment they tell you the reasons you feel so really naked. Someone said, “kids will play with anyone from any race until parents tell them something else.” You are so adventurous and everything is reachable. One time you wake up as Doctor and you play with other kids admiring being a Doctor, or pilot or architect, a nurse everything in life is achievable.

Life has no meaning until you design it the way you want it and be fulfilled. It has no meaning except being an existing creature making use of oxygen to breath for free. Making use of the knowledge, skills, talent, gifts you have acquired gives you the idea of what life is to you. Taking those calculated risks and facing every challenge to finish what you’ve started also gives a hint and sense of fulfillment. When people give you the five to ten or twenty steps to a meaningful life its either they are talking about themselves or what they’ve read, seen. Do the best you can but not at the expense of others.

No wonder we celebrate success and have a sense of fulfillment when we get what we’ve longed for. Remember the wealthiest man who has ever lived, King Solomon speech. He was given a platform, if it was today we would have called it supposedly a motivational speech. This guy being wealthy as he was and he opens his mouth and the first thing he says, “This is the vanity of vanities, everything is meaningless, it is like chasing after the wind”. Maybe he meant to warn us to have fun and never take things so serious they way we do. Because after all there is nothing new. Be amazed at your discoveries along the journey. If life had a specific meaning we would be using the same script and there wouldn’t be any misunderstanding. We are discovering ourselves through trial and error as life happens.

It was around 1992–4 when watching the news about the Rwanda Genocide. I didn’t even know what was the point of people killing others from the same place. I hated the scene of watching kids with their mothers carrying loads and crossing the border. Imagine at that time a motivational speaker go to them and say, “life has a meaning.” It would have been as depressing as hell. How can you say that while we are dying? Rwandans decided to give life meaning themselves, look at them today. One of the cleanest cities in the world is Kigali, the Capital of Rwanda. They gave meaning to life after all their struggles by turning everything upside down. Moved on with their lives irrespective of what happened. They can conduct those motivational speeches for you but not you, would have been their concern. Ok, go further across when Ethiopia was facing famine, I would have hated you if you were to tell me life has meaning during that period without providing food for the dying. How much more to the Ethiopians, when out of your arrogance you would tell them, “everything happens for a reason.” Get off my face and tell the stones that statement.

Damn you feel like our parents sold us out, “Go to school, get best grades, distinctions, find a job and you will be happy”. Later on, you get a job, work so hard, earn a big cheque, but somewhere somehow you get bored. Not because you have the most boring job on Earth only because you want to do things your way. You have learned a lot but still struggling to stand on your own. Until you decide to do something for yourself, you will not feel that sense of self-actualization. It is as if you are stuck with all your debit orders paid, children to University, got the best car you wanted yet something is missing. You ask yourself, what is really the meaning of life if I am still not satisfied. You can be content but not really fulfilled. I am sure Bill Gates was on top of the world the day he realized the world rely on Microsoft. I think for him it was just a sense of fulfillment more than the money we are chasing after as average people.

We design the life we want with the knowledge we have acquired. We make use of our brains by putting everything we anticipate into action or implement. Others prefer to get all the toys, gadgets and money they want a means to life fulfillment. That is life to them. Someone had to give plants, insects, animals, objects and the rest of other creatures a name. When you are able to answer what life means to you there is no controversy only if you absolutely do the opposite. We then call you a hypocrite.

The religious fellows will argue the fact that they need to pray for God to show them a direction. Really? Ok for me, I think if I believe I was created to do something, that’s my duty, not God. He’s done his part then it is up to me to figure out what needs to be done to get to where I want to be. We die still unfulfilled because we trying to define for others what life is yet we don’t even know what it means. Life is simple, life. It goes on whether you are achieving, succeeding, failing or stagnant. It goes on. Time marches on. It has no meaning until you give it a meaning. Your child is without a name until you give him or her one. She won’t talk until you show her how to. Later on in life, they use that to make things happen for themselves.

If life had a meaning otherwise we would be successful when we reach eighteen, twenty and so on depends on when do you want your order. You are thrown into the deep end of reality as you grow up and figure out that its time to make your own decision. It is up to you to stick to what your parents, teachers, and preachers told you. Prophecies that you have received will never blossom until you take action and move toward your own destiny. Until you have to define what life is according to you, the meaning comes into place. If life had a meaning we needed not to figure out what is it that one wants. We would have just woken up and get our orders and chill. No mountains to climb, no race to run everything is in place.

Songwriters have done their best trying to figure out what exactly is love. Songs we listen to gets us closer on what kind of lovers we want to keep. If you were to be asked what love is, you would have given your own definition based on your experiences, current love life and what you have seen. That means there is no definite meaning of love. I listened to Brian Adams’ song recently, “When you love someone. You will do crazy things.” I supposed even things that don’t really make any sense to others watching you expressing your love. Only because they have their own definition of love. If then that was the case, we knew exactly what love is why are we still hurt and so disloyal? You design what life, success and love mean to you. In your own way.
